Some Clinical Info About Perimenopause
✅ Don’t get it twisted ~ perimenopause is different than menopause
✅ Menopause is the one single day when a woman has gone 1 full year without a period. The average age for menopause is about 51 and typically between the ages of 45-55. Menopause is like the one year anniversary of the last time you bled.
✅ Post menopause is the time after that one day of menopause signifying one year without a period.
✅ Perimenopause is the time prior to menopause and can last up to 10 years. So, typically women begin perimenopause between the ages of 35-45 approximately. If you are a woman in your late 30s or in your 40s, there’s a strong chance you are experiencing perimenopause.
✅ In perimenopause, your hormones change and your estrogen declines. You may experience a change in your cycle: shorter or longer periods, skipping periods, and experiencing lighter or heavier bleeding than typical.
✅ Some signs of perimenopause can include: anxiety, mood swings, irritation, hot flashes, night sweats, insomnia, weight gain, urinary incontinence, and more. Fun, right?! Just kidding. 😘
So, What Does Perimenopause Feel Like?
Perimenopause is like that mid-season plot twist you didn’t see coming. It’s the transition phase before menopause, where your hormones decide to go on a wild rollercoaster ride, bringing along some… let’s call them unexpected changes.
One day, you feel amazing and unstoppable. The next, you’re staying at home like an introverted hermit in your sweats, low-key freaking out at “minor” things, and are Googling “what is brain fog” Not to mention, you may have a harder time falling or staying asleep, you’re losing your interest in sex, and something unthinkable has happened when you sneezed….if you know what I mean.
But here’s the thing: Perimenopause isn’t just about your period changing. It’s about your entire life shifting—physically, emotionally, and even spiritually. With the right mindset, perimenopause can be a great time in our lives. Likely your kids are older and more independent, leaving you with more time for yourself. You just wish you could enjoy this time rather than be stressed out.
You are not losing your mind. You’re experiencing perimenopause.
Perimenopause Can Bring a Mix of Emotions….and if you are feeling like:
🥴 Your anxiety is suddenly on overdrive – Even social situations that never bothered you before feel overwhelming.
🥴 Your libido is doing the cha-cha (but mostly the disappearing part) – One minute you’re into it, the next you’d rather nap.
🥴 Your relationships feel… complicated – Whether it’s with your partner, friends, or even yourself, everything feels up for reevaluation.
🥴 You’re questioning EVERYTHING – Your job, your purpose, your dreams, even why you ever thought thinning your eyebrows was a good idea.
🥴 Sleep? What’s that? – You either can’t fall asleep, wake up drenched in sweat, or suddenly have 3 AM existential thoughts about the meaning of life.
🥴 You feel like a completely different person some days – Mood swings, brain fog, and “Why did I walk into this room again?” moments are now a daily thing.
Sound familiar? You’re not alone.
This is what perimenopause does…
It forces you to pause, reevaluate, and step into a new version of yourself. While it might feel like chaos, it’s also an invitation to step into your most powerful, authentic self.
